Abstract

Introduction: Green innovation plays a pivotal role in addressing environmental challenges while fostering economic growth. As global concerns over climate change and resource depletion rise, sustainable technologies have become integral to the future of industries and society. Ecopreneurs, individuals who merge entrepreneurial spirit with environmental responsibility, are at the forefront of this transformative movement. Their ability to introduce innovative solutions that minimize environmental impact and promote sustainable practices is reshaping industries across the globe.

Methodology: This study employs a qualitative research approach to explore the role of ecopreneurs in the development of sustainable technologies, using a multiple case study design to analyze their strategies, challenges and contributions. Data are gathered through semi-structured interviews with ecopreneurs, industry experts and policymakers; a structured questionnaire distributed among ecopreneurs; document analysis of publicly available reports, business case studies and academic literature; and direct or virtual observation of ecopreneurial enterprises. A purposive sampling technique selects ecopreneurs actively engaged in developing sustainable technologies, with the sample including startups, SMEs and large-scale green businesses from renewable energy, waste management and sustainable agriculture. A mixed-methods analysis combines quantitative surveys of 329 participants from urban and suburban areas with qualitative focus group discussions.

Results & Discussion: Survey data from 329 participants were analysed using descriptive statistics to summarise demographic information and key variables, regression analysis to examine the strength and significance of the relationship between green messaging components and consumer behaviour, and structural equation modelling to assess the complex interactions among multiple variables. Focus group discussions provided deeper insights into consumer perceptions, with thematic analysis identifying key themes on consumer awareness and attitudes toward green marketing, the influence of eco-friendly messaging on purchasing decisions, and perceived credibility and trust in sustainable branding. Preliminary findings reveal that emotionally appealing and credible messages significantly enhance consumer intention to adopt sustainable energy solutions, while clarity in messaging was identified as a crucial factor in fostering long-term commitment to eco-friendly practices. Ecopreneurs are fundamental to the development of sustainable technologies, pioneering new products and processes where traditional industries may be slow to adapt due to short-term profit motives or resource constraints.

Conclusion: Ecopreneurs are fundamental to the development of sustainable technologies, often pioneering new products, processes and solutions aimed at solving critical environmental challenges. A large portion of the green technologies developed by ecopreneurs is centred around improving resource efficiency and reducing waste, including innovations in renewable energy, waste management, water conservation and energy efficiency. The study offers actionable insights for policymakers and marketers to design effective communication strategies that resonate with diverse consumer segments, and its practical implications extend to businesses, investors and consumers, helping shape strategies, policies and practices that support sustainable technological advancements and foster an environment conducive to ecopreneur success.
