Abstract

Introduction: Ecopreneurs, or ecological entrepreneurs, play a crucial role in promoting environmental sustainability by integrating eco-friendly practices into business operations. They drive innovation in green technologies, waste management, renewable energy, and sustainable products, significantly reducing environmental degradation. By developing businesses that prioritize conservation, pollution control, and resource efficiency, ecopreneurs contribute to climate change mitigation and biodiversity protection, while their role in balancing profitability with environmental stewardship is essential for achieving a sustainable future.

Methodology: The present paper focuses on the meaning of ecopreneurs, environmental protection, the role of ecopreneurs in environment protection, and the major ecopreneurs in India. It sets out a definition of ecopreneurship as the process of creating and managing environmentally sustainable businesses, combining innovation, social responsibility and profitability across sectors including renewable energy, waste management and recycling, organic and sustainable agriculture, eco-friendly consumer products, and green technology and sustainable construction. It then examines the key aspects of environmental protection covering pollution control, conservation of resources, biodiversity preservation, carbon emission reduction and waste management, sets out seven reasons why environmental protection is needed, and documents eight roles and eight areas of importance of ecopreneurs, alongside their challenges and future prospects.

Results & Discussion: Eight roles of ecopreneurs in environmental protection are documented: promoting sustainable business practices, waste reduction and recycling, conservation of natural resources, renewable energy development, eco-friendly products and services, raising environmental awareness, fighting climate change, and green job creation. Eight areas of importance are set out, covering sustainable development, reducing pollution and waste, conserving natural resources, driving renewable energy adoption, encouraging green innovation, raising awareness, supporting climate change mitigation and creating green jobs. Four challenges are identified: financial constraints from high initial investments, regulatory hurdles from complex policies and inconsistent government support, market competition against established corporations with non-sustainable practices, and limited consumer adoption due to cost and accessibility. Notable Indian ecopreneurs documented include Nitin Gupta of Attero Recycling, Manoj Bhargava of Billions in Change, Svati Bhogle of Sustaintech and TIDE, Ankit Agarwal of Phool.co, Arun Krishnamurthy of the Environmentalist Foundation of India, Aditi Gupta of Menstrupedia, Vivek Gurav of Pune Ploggers, and Akhilesh Darbha and Venkatesh K of Bambrew.

Conclusion: Environmental protection is necessary to sustain life on Earth. By adopting eco-friendly practices, enforcing regulations, and promoting sustainable development, we can ensure a cleaner, healthier, and more prosperous future for all. Ecopreneurs are key drivers of environmental protection, ensuring that businesses operate in harmony with nature. Their innovations and sustainable approaches are essential for reducing environmental degradation and promoting a greener, healthier planet. Ecopreneurs serve as change-makers in the business world by combining profitability with environmental responsibility, and their efforts contribute significantly to long-term ecological balance and a more sustainable future.
